Marvel Comics takes on the mystery behind the unknown dimensional Miles Morales. An origin dealt in blood and money as Miles starts as small fish to making it big time in the criminal underworld of New York City.
Brian Michael Bendis unearths the hidden backstory of the other dimension Miles Morales. A criminal with heavy ties Miles aligned himself with Wilson Fisk, The Kingpin. After saving Wilson in prison from getting killed the two start their own organization upon release.
Rising through the ranks Miles and Wilson become more powerful as their reputation and resources grow in the twisted game. Eventually the two take on Don Rigoletto head of the Rigoletto crime family and Wilson’s former boss. In the end Miles and Wilson kill the Don and move forward with their crime expansion and ventures.
Sara Pichelli keeps the artwork straightforward in the progression of the comic book. The scenes are never over exaggerated or too complex in the makings of the panels. The characters and background hold heavy thick lines to be more appealing to the eye.
Facial structures of characters are complete with different flesh color tones to bring about a sense of realism to the appearance. The overall colors take form in red, blue, pink, and black in the background.
The comic has the atmosphere of a crime drama piece rather than a take of super powered heroics. Miles and Wilson present an essence of intimidation and strength in their presence.
The conclusion leads to more questions as to how they relate to the Spider-Men? What are the plans Miles has for the heroes and the intentions behind these plans is never revealed. The comic book leaves no compelling story elements in the aftermath. Therefore, there is nothing to take away from reading this book. As the story continues more will come to light as the evil Miles makes moves to ensure his criminal life remains in tact.
